There’s quite an eclectic mix of events coming up in and around the Mission City.

5th Annual Mission City Cup – Pro Wrestling Fundraiser

Friday, June 23

Doors open at 6 p.m., first match at 7:30 p.m.

Santa Clara’s Wrestling for Charity and the S.E.S. Santa Clara are proud to present “Mission City Mayhem,” a professional wrestling fundraiser event to assist the 110-plus year-old Sociedade do Espirito in their efforts to raise funds for a parking lot re-surfacing project.

The family-friendly, multi-generational event will feature a colorful cast of larger-than-life villains and superheroes including a women’s match between “Warrior Princess” Samara and Kimmy. Others  appearing include Santa Clara native “The Fighting Unicorn” Kimo, WFC heavyweight champion “Metalhead Maniac” Sledge, the dark and mysterious Funnybone former WFC champion Jeckles the Jester and a slew of others, including “Pistolero” Julio Pedroza and iconic Lucha Libre masked favorites Chicano Flame and Anarkya.

In addition to an array of the most charismatic in-ring performers, WFC Assistant General Manager “The Notorious” Pollo Del Mar, the Bay Area’s most wrestling-obsessed drag personality has been commissioned to keep the chaos at a minimum.

Community Input: New City Manager

Monday, June 26

7 to 8:30 p.m.

Northside Library – Community Room, 695 Moreland Way

This is the last of three community meetings in which the the City is inviting public comment about the characteristics and qualities the new City Manager.

Residents also make comments online.

4th of July All-City Picnic & Fireworks Extravaganza

Central Park, 909 Kiely Blvd.

12 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Activities include music by the Deja Vu Band and Buchser Jazz Band, The Megatones and Pop Fiction, concluding with a fireworks extravaganza at approximately 9:30 p.m.  Other attractions will include carnival games, jump houses, face painting, kids’ crafts, free public swimming at the International swim center (limited capacity – first-come, first-served) community groups information booths and food for purchase plus several food trucks.

6th Annual Silicon Valley BBQ Championships

Friday, June 23 – 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Saturday, June 24 – 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Central Park in Santa Clara, 909 Kiely Blvd.

Free admission. BBQ samples and other items available to purchase.

Parking $10.

The SVBBQ Championships is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) as the 2nd largest Championship on the West Coast!  60 professional BBQ teams will be competing in: pork ribs, pulled pork, chicken thighs and brisket.  The event features live music, food, drinks, and various business/art & crafts vendors. 100 percent of the proceeds raised from this event will help support various annual projects sponsored by the Santa Clara Rotary Foundation.
