The City Council heads to summer break soon but not before two meetings: a special meeting tonight and a regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday. They’ve got a lot of stuff going on. Here’s a quick overview of what’ll be discussed:

Monday

• Appointment to the Planning Commission. A vacancy came up when Mike O’Halloran resigned.
• Korea Day sponsorship pitch. The Korean American Chamber of Commerce of Silicon Valley is asking for City sponsorship or support for a Saturday, August 11 Korea Day event at the Moonlite Lanes Plaza parking lot. They are seeking a minimum of approximately $5,000 waived in City permits and fees. They have also asked the City for marketing support. The event expects 2,000 attendees.
• Placing a cannabis tax on the November 2018 ballot.
• Possible City charter changes for the November ballot regarding District elections.
• Public input on potential District maps for election of Council members. There are three suggestions proposed: 1) one 2-District Map (the same map previously approved by the Council with three Council Members representing each district; 2) Two 3-District Maps. Under these maps, City Council Members would be elected by three Districts with two Council Members representing each district; 3) Two 6-District Maps. Under these maps, City Council Members would be elected by six districts (Districts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6) with one Council Member representing each district.
• More information on the now terminated management agreement with the Santa Clara Chamber of Commerce and the Convention-Visitors Bureau (CVB) and Santa Clara Convention Center. The City, as recently as 2015, alerted the Chamber of the likelihood of terminating the agreement. It looks like former interim City Manager Rajeev Batra is the one who approved the recent major spikes in management fee to the Chamber without the council’s approval or knowledge. This will not likely help his attempt at getting a post-retirement pension spike if he hasn’t given up.

Tuesday

• A public hearing on easement acquisitions for the Franklin Street and Washington Street right-of-way with Park Central Apartments owner Prometheus in Franklin Square.
• Hearing on the development proposal for Mission Town Center mixed-use project, also known as the “Viso Project” at 575 Benton. This is a multi-story development project.
• Teresa Sulcer has requested censure of Councilmembers Patty Mahan and Pat Kolstad. This should be interesting. Sulcer made strong her case with an opinion piece. A lot of community leaders showed up at a recent meeting saying the same thing.
• Jerry Patrignani requested a permanent build-in of a clubhouse for the Santa Clara Lawn Bowls Club.
