Welcome to City Hall Raj, Karen, Hosam and Welcome Back, Mayor Gillmor

By Robert Haugh

Tomorrow evening, City Clerk Hosam Haggag, Councilmembers Raj Chahal and Karen Hardy will be sworn into their new roles. So will elected Mayor Lisa Gillmor.

This special Council meeting is the ceremonial reception for the newly-elected Mission City  officials. It’s their welcome party.

All four have been active in the Santa Clara community for years.

Gillmor has become one of the most popular Mayors in Mission City history, notable for her reform efforts as she’s led the City Hall clean up focused on the 49ers and the Chamber of Commerce. She was re-elected in a landslide because Santa Clarans like the new direction of transparency and accountability.

Haggag has been servicing the community by live streaming several Council, committee and commission meetings, as well as serving on two Charter Review Committees. He’ll be a City Clerk who will actively engage the community.

Chahal has served as a Planning Commissioner and has long been involved with local youth programs and organizations. He campaigned to stop major developments in neighborhoods.

Hardy is a former planning commissioner who was a leader against the 49er stadium campaign. She’s a Wilcox High science and math teacher and has served in many roles with local youth and community groups as well.

The new faces are a showcase of the Mission City’s diversity as well. We look forward to their service. And reporting on them too – the good, the bad, and the ugly.
