City Council Preview

It’s the first Council meeting of the new year. Here are highlights:

  • Several potential legal matters will be discussed in closed session, including the use of the main Levi’s Stadium parking lot by the 49ers. According to a November 2018 letter from City manager Deanna Santana to 49ers executive Al Guido, there are ADA accessibility issues currently ignored by the 49ers.

  • Disbursement of proceeds from the 2018 Santa Clara Art & Wine Festival. Over $151,000 was raised with $70,874 being donated to local programs and services. Kudos to the organizers and many volunteers who made this happen. It’s one of the Mission City’s best events.

  • Council will hear the results of the Intel Superfund site at 2880 Northwestern Parkway. The site was placed on the National Priorities list in 1986 due to groundwater contamination by TCE. The EPA and California Region Water Quality Board oversaw cleanup of the site — which achieved drinking water standards in 2017.

  • Council may adopt amendments to an ordinance on accessory dwelling units (ADUs), aka “granny units.”

  • Mayor Lisa Gillmor is recommending the appointment of Patty Mahan as Vice Mayor and Kathy Watanabe as Chaplain.
