Santa Clara City Place Development Will Employ World Famous Architect Norman Foster

By Robert Haugh

We haven’t heard much about the City Place Project recently. But it looks like the City and the Related Company have been doing a lot of work.

Yesterday, they had breakfast with reporters to announce that they’ll be putting some shovels in the ground soon.  (Note to Related team: sorry we couldn’t make it, but thanks for the invite. Hope you saved us some New York bagels.)

Related announced that one of the most famous architects in the world will be a part of the project — Norman Foster.

In 1999, Foster was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize, often referred to as the Nobel Prize of architecture

Foster designed Apple Park:

He also designed London City Hall:

And the Hearst Tower in New York:

With Foster and the Related Company, we know the development will be really cool. It’ll also be really big. Here are some numbers:

  • TOTAL PROJECT — 240 acres / 9.2 million Square feet

  • OFFICE SPACE / CAMPUSES — 5.4 million Square feet

  • HOTEL ROOMS — 700

  • EXTENDED-STAY UNITS — 400

  • RESIDENTIAL UNITS — 1,280 (with ten percent affordable units)

  • RETAIL SPACE, FOOD, BEVERAGE, AND ENTERTAINMENT — 1 million square feet

Santa Clara will have a really cool “uptown.” It’s going to dwarf places like San Jose’s Santana Row.

Construction begins in 2020.

  1. […] Uber Elevate is affiliated with Uber, the car ridesharing company that just went public.  The Related Company is developing City Place on the golf course north of the Levi’s Stadium. It’ll be the Mission City’s new uptown. And from what we’ve seen so far it’s going to be a great development. Last month, the developer announced that world-famous architect Norman Foster had signed on. […]

  2. And parking for 2 cars. This area and state doesn’t have the infrastructure for this type of development. How are people going to get to work? Traffic will be stopped at Mission and 880. Lafayette will jam at Central. One day, you will not be able to get your car out of the driveway. But, I really don’t care, as I’m leaving.

  3. Could you let us know about the Groundbreaking? The date and time? Thank you for your time and consideration. I live right behind Levi’s Stadium. I look forward to the development.
