AWARDS: Best and Worst of the Week —  The Parade of Champions Organizers and 49ers Exec Jim Mercurio

By Robert Haugh

The Good —The Leg Drop Award:

The Santa Clara Parade of Champions will revive a great city tradition. The organizers have raised about $78,000. Kudos to the Parade leadership Ana Vargas Smith, Mary Grizzle, Nancy Biagini and others who made this happen in a really short period of time.

The Parade will take place in Santa Clara’s historic downtown area on Saturday, September 28, 2019, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (not on September 29 as incorrectly reported in the Santa Clara Weekly).

The Bad — The Jabroni Award:

49ers exec Jim Mercurio looks like he has a conflict of interest in two companies,  not just one like we originally reported.  But the California Fair Political Practices Commission will be investigating Mercurio and maybe others, too.

  1. The parade organizers deserve the award. Great job by them. Way to smack the weekly. I noticed the mistake too. I noticed they fixed it after you called them out. Ha ha. Looks like they read you first thing like everyone else at city hall. Great job robert.
