Last Friday, there was a 4-alarm fire at a condominium construction site, located at 1890 El Camino Real. Fortunately, there was only one minor injury.
One worker at the construction site suffered a non-life-threatening injury and was taken to a local hospital for care.
“Once again, the City of Santa Clara’s first responders saved the day,” said Mayor Lisa M. Gillmor. “Specifically, their heroic actions saved the adjacent neighborhood from what could have been a true catastrophe for many of our residents. I want to personally thank our Fire personnel for their quick and attentive response and our Police Department for assisting with the evacuation and much more.”
The fire broke out at the 1890 El Camino Real Residential Project. Under construction is a total of 56 units over a podium parking structure. The project was approximately 25 percent complete and in the rough framing stage according to city officials.
The fire’s cause is under investigation.
Around 11 a.m. Friday, June 28, the fire department got multiple reports of large plumes of smoke. Firefighters arrived and found the four-story structure was fully engulfed.
According to the City’s press release:
Fire crews declared the fire contained by 2 p.m. However, firefighters remain on scene to monitor and extinguish hot spots throughout the structure. El Camino Real, between Lincoln Street and Scott Boulevard, will remain closed until further notice. Detours are in place.
Mutual aid from fire departments from neighboring cities helped put out the flames.
Also, 10 nearby houses were temporarily evacuated. But the fire did not spread to nearby single-family homes.
Most likely the general contractor … or some lobbyist. Where was the famous KevMo at that time?
Not KevMo. Ain’t no way he would do this. KevMo is the MAN! Yeah, he works for lots of sleazy developers. But he’s the MAN!
As I have heard several people say, if we had a wind at that time it could have been so much worse in terms of damage to nearby structures. The fact there was no wind to speak of also probably helped keep toxic smoke from more homes.
Still waiting to hear why a person of interest was detained. What’s up with that? Arson in the middle of the day? According to the Murky News “A “person of interest” has been detained in connection with the fire, said Santa Clara police Capt. Wahid Kazem.” Inquiring minds want to know….
