AWARDS: Best and Worst of the Week — the Oakland A’s and the San Jose Sharks

By Robert Haugh

The Good — The Leg Drop Award:

The A’s created a $1 million dollar fund to pay their ballpark workers during the COVID-19 crisis. The Warriors and Giants did the same, but their franchises are worth a lot more than the A’s.

The A’s also contributed an extra $100,000 to the Alameda County Food Bank and created a GoFundMe campaign.

Unlike the 49ers, the A’s did not make the contribution by taking it out of their employee’s crisis fund.

The Bad — The Jabroni Award:

The San Jose Sharks have only paid their arena workers through March and won’t say how much.

They also held a game on March 5 that over 14,500 attended at the SAP Center ignoring the warnings of County health officials and putting our community at risk.

  1. How long were the Sharks supposed to pay arena workers? There were only 2 games to be played in April.
