Levi’s Stadium Turns Purple to Join Tribute Honoring Bay Area Hospitality Workers

By Robert Haugh

On Monday night, Levi’s Stadium turned purple to honor Bay Area hospitality workers. The lights changed at 8 p.m. at the stadium.

The idea was started in San Francisco.

After San Francisco City Hall announced that the building would be purple on three Mondays (April 6,13 and 20) other buildings followed their lead.

  • the California Academy of Sciences,
  • Chase Center,
  • Coit Tower,
  • the Conservatory of Flowers,
  • the Exploratorium,
  • the Ferry Building,
  • Fort Mason Center,
  • Ghirardelli Square,
  • the Moscone Center,
  • Oracle Park,
  • SF International Airport,
  • SFMOMA, and
  • 11 hotels in San Francisco.

Outside of San Francisco, others including Levi’s Stadium joined in:

  • Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn,
  • the Claremont Club & Spa in Berkeley,
  • the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose,
  • The Wave in Dublin,
  • a park fountain in Livermore, and as far south as the California Bank & Trust in Torrance.

The color purple was selected to represent hospitality because it’s a blend of red representing luxury and blue representing comfort.

“This tribute to hospitality workers is a testament to the power of travel,” said Caroline Beteta, president and CEO of Visit California. “As the hospitality industry looks to the future, these dedicated workers will help light the way toward re-establishing travel as an engine of California’s economy.”

  1. That’s nice. Wouldn’t it be nicer if they had used the cash to purchase PPE for medical workers? Just a simple thought.

  2. We will never forget their efforts and their courage during these tough times. God bless them
