City Council Preview: Covid-19 Updates, Recognition of Assistant Police Chief Dan Winter

Tomorrow’s Council meeting includes:

  • Recognition of Assistant Chief of Police Daniel Winter for his service to the City.
  • Santa Clara County COVID-19 update provided by County Supervisor Susan Ellenberg
  • Verbal report from City Manager Deanna Santana regarding the COVID-19 Pandemic
  • Proclamation of June 2020 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) Pride month in Santa Clara
  • Study Session: Review of the Proposed 2020/21 and 2021/22 Biennial Capital Improvement program budget and 2020/21 Operating Budget Changes

Consent Calendar 3G: “Action on the Introduction of an Ordinance Repealing Section 2.105.015 (“Performance of City Auditor Functions”), Adding a New Chapter 2.29 (“Office of the City Auditor”), and Amending Chapter 2.30 (“Independent Auditor”) of the City Code to Change the Title to ==> Independent External Auditor and Create the Independent Office of the City Auditor, is mine.]

    This may be no news – and it also may have been ongoing for some time – but this agenda item confirms the severance of the audit function from the function of the City Clerk’s office.

    Now, appoint that Auditor to be the Treasurer/Auditor of the Santa Clara Stadium Authority as well as reporting to that identical Santa Clara City Council, and you’ve got yourself a deal.

    ==> If an “independent Auditor” can keep the Forty-Whiners from sticking the Stadium Authority with $4,400,000 catering bills for Jed York’s friends, then we’re safer as a city for that.

    Measure Jed was passed ten years ago today. Last I looked, it’s still in force, and Jed York can afford his own buffets.

    • Thanks for the reminder, Bill Bailey. 10 year anniversary that Jed and his family, Fat Jamie, Prettie Pattie, and Dumb Dominik got the go ahead to screw the city over with their toilet bowl. I voted no but the damage is done and continues to be done.

  3. What’s to say about the virus? Our social conscience is more important than the virus according to some ‘expert’ epidemiologists.
    “We should always evaluate the risks and benefits of efforts to control the virus,” Jennifer Nuzzo, a Johns Hopkins epidemiologist, tweeted on Tuesday. “In this moment the public health risks of not protesting to demand an end to systemic racism greatly exceed the harms of the virus.”
    So, lock down over, right?
