City Council and Stadium Authority Meeting Previews: Garbage Rates, Related Santa Clara, November ToT Tax & More

The City Council should be paid overtime. They have two council meetings this week: today and tomorrow. Both Monday’s special meeting and the regular Tuesday meetings start at 1 p.m. Here are the major topics:

  • Study session on the overview of the new Sustainability program
  • Adoption of a Resolution in Support of the 2020 Census. The Mission City is doing phenomenally well compared to the state on self-reporting.
  • Actions Related to a Temporary Road Maintenance Agreement with Related Santa Clara for a New Road Extending Stars & Stripes Drive to Great America Parkway Through the former Santa Clara Golf & Tennis Club Property and Naming the New Road Extension Stars & Stripes Drive
  • Public Hearing on a Written Petition submitted by Hansol Kim requesting changes to the Zoning Code for massage establishments.
  • Public Hearing on action on Request for Letter of Support for AB 398: COVID-19 Local Government and School Recovery and Relief Act
  • Action on Agreements to Provide Comprehensive Banking Services to the City
  • Public Hearing Action on Related Santa Clara Development Area Plan (DAP) 2 for Phase 2 of the Related Santa Clara Project, located on vacant parcels on the Former Municipal Golf Course

Tuesday’s 1 p.m. Council meeting includes:

  • Proclamation of August 2020 as American Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month
  • Recognition of District 1 (Northside) resident Jennifer Whitten
  • Verbal Report from City Manager regarding the COVID-19 Pandemic
  • Action to Delegate Authority to Mayor Lisa Gillmor and Police Chief Pat Nikolai to Establish an Ad Hoc Committee in Support of the “Commit to Action” Initiative
  • Authorization to Award a Purchase Order for Stadium Builder Licenses Digitization Services
  • Public Hearing on the Negotiation and Execution of a Third Amendment to the Exclusive Negotiations Agreement with Republic Metropolitan LLC for 500 Benton Street
  • Adopt a Resolution Ordering the Submission of a Ballot Measure on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 for the Purpose of Submitting to City Voters a Measure to Increase the Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) Rate in an Amount Up to 4%; Directing the City Attorney to Prepare an Impartial Analysis; and Setting Priorities for Ballot Arguments
  • Adoption of a Resolution Setting Rates for Overall Solid Waste Services, Annual Clean-up Campaign, and Household Hazardous Waste in the Exclusive Franchise Area; Report responding to Councilmember Raj Chahal’s Analysis; and Consideration of Council Action on a Rate Assistance Program.
