One of the better responses to the COVID-19 pandemic has been the Healthy Meals Santa Clara program.
The City partnered with Santa Clara Unified School District to supplement their school meals program so Santa Clara kids would not go hungry on the weekends. The supplemental program provides them breakfast and lunch bags.
Since school is scheduled to start August 17, only two days remain for food distribution: today, and August 6 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the following locations:
- Cabrillo Middle School, 2550 Cabrillo Ave.
- Don Callejon School, 4176 Lick Mill Blvd.
- Wilcox High School, 3250 Monroe St.
Over 80 employees have worked and volunteered to make the program happen.
According to City staff, Mayor Lisa Gillmor, Councilwoman Teresa O’Neill and Councilwoman Kathy Watanabe were regular volunteers at the distribution centers.
The following companies and organizations provided financial support for the meals:
- California’s Great America
- Intel Corporation
- Levy Premium Food Services
- Mission City Community Fund
- Spectra Venue Management
