Silicon Valley Power Increases Utility Rates Next Month

By Robert Haugh

Last week, the City Council unanimously approved a three percent rate increase for Silicon Valley Power customers.

This increase will appear on March 2021 bills for February 2021 usage. Santa Clara’s electricity rates will remain among the lowest for California utilities serving over 5,000 customers, according to Silicon Valley Power staff.

Staff also reports that the new revenue will be used for the necessary maintenance of the electric system and to cover the increased costs of power transmission.

California transmission costs have risen by almost 200 percent in the past few years.

Silicon Valley Power also plans improvements like replacing old power poles, crossarms, and transformers to prevent outages and maintaining high-quality service.

Silicon Valley Power has energy efficiency and financial assistance programs for Santa Clara residents.

  1. Thanks for the heads up. I looked it up but don’t see an increase for commercial customers, but they had one last year. Can’t tell if residential did or not.

  2. With our new councils relationship with the 49ers this could be a good thing.
