The Santa Clara University Lady Broncos claimed their second national championship on May 17 by defeating No. 1 ranked Florida State.
Yesterday at Santa Clara City Hall, Mayor Lisa Gillmor and other members of the City Council honored the team with certificates and medals.
Also being honored were the coaching staff including head coach Jerry Smith who led the 2001 national championship team.
Later this summer, a community celebration is being planned for the team.
