Fire Damages Beloved Santa Clara Elks Lodge

By Robert Haugh

A two-alarm fire on Friday, January 28 severely damaged the beloved Santa Clara Elks Lodge

According to multiple media reports, two people were injured. The fire apparently started in the kitchen of the facility at 1680 Martin.

Reports state one person was taken to a hospital for minor burns and smoke inhalation before being released, while another was treated and released at the scene.

The fire was reported at around 5 p.m., and under control by 9 p.m. Many believe the close proximity of Fire Station no. 2 aided in the quick response.

Several streets in the area were temporarily closed.

Silicon Valley Power handled isolated power outages in the vicinity.

It is unknown if the building is salvageable.

The Santa Clara Elks Lodge is a non-profit that has operated in the Mission City for decades. They’ve raised over $12 million for the local community. The Lodge has hosted an array of events, including many on their large patio lawn area. They host many veterans organizations and civic groups.

  1. Ironically symbolic of what our current council is trying to do to everything that’s made this a great city to live and work in.

Hopefully they’ll come back better- what a great organization that’s done a lot of good in The Mission City.
