Santa Clara Teen Remi Fusilero Wins National Gymnastics Title

By Robert Haugh

Santa Clara might be home to the next Simone Biles.

Buchser Middle School student and Santa Clara native Remi Fusilero recently claimed the All-Around and Balance Beam National Title at the 2022 Western National Championships in Salt Lake City May 5-8.

Kudos to her.

Remi, a gymnast at Santa Clara’s Twisters Gymnastics earned the USA Gymnastics Level 9 Western National All-Around and Balance Beam Titles.

The event included some of the best Level 9 (two levels below Olympic Level) gymnasts in the United States. It marks Remi’s third National Title in two years. Wow.

Remi started gymnastics at 18-months-old. She was a member of the USA Gymnastics TOPS Program (A Talent Opportunity Program for Olympic Hopefuls) from 7 to 10. She continued onward to the Junior Olympic Program.

The 13-year-old finished her final level 9 Competition at the 2022 Western Nationals advancing to competitive Level 10 (one level below Elite) while training at Twisters, the Santa Clara gym owned by her parents and coaches, Ericka and Allan Fusilero.

Remi grew up in Santa Clara. She attended Sutter Elementary School and is now a 7th Grader at Buchser Middle School.

She has competed throughout the country, in large competitions in Washington, D.C., Florida, Texas, Colorado and Iowa.

“We are taking it one year at a time,” said Remi’s father. “Our formula has worked so far. We will cross that bridge if it ever becomes an option. But, she does want to compete in college gymnastics and earn a full scholarship,” he said regarding Olympic aspirations.

Remi’s accolades include the 2021 Western National Championship for Floor Exercise and the 2022 Western National Championship in Balance Beam and All-Around.

The Mission City should be proud of Remi and we are likely looking at someone who will be featured in a future Santa Clara Parade of Champions.

  1. Congratulations—what an accomplishment. We would love to invite her to be a young grand marshall in the Parade of Champions on October 1st 2022! We have a convertible ready just need to speak to the family officially.
