Santa Clara City Council Preview: Possible 49er Cover Up; Planning Commissioner Removal & Much More

By Robert Haugh

Tomorrow, the Santa Clara City Council, acting as the Stadium Authority will consider settlement agreements with the 49ers in closed session. Earlier today, former City Attorney Brian Doyle called it a “cover up.”

There’s also many other items on a packed agenda. Here’s the other items:

  • Conference with Legal Counsel-Existing Litigation — Jacob Malae v. City of Santa Clara, et al., United States District Court, Northern District of California, Case Number 3:21-cv-1453
  • Proclaim August 2022 as American Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month
  • Proclaim August 2022 as Transgender History Month
  • Consent calendar – Action on the Approval of a Municipal Law Enforcement Services Agreement with San Francisco Police Department (deferred from the July 12, 2022 City Council meeting). This is for public safety at Levi’s Stadium.
  • Receive Silicon Valley Power Quarterly Report (Deferred from July 5, 2022)
  • Consideration of Action on a Resolution to Remove Ron Patrick from the Planning Commission in Accordance with Council Policy 032; and to Appoint First Eligible Appointee Mario Bouza to the Planning Commission. This started as a petition by Councilman Anthony Becker. Patrick has verified his residency status and wrote about it here.
  • Action on a Council Written Request (Council Policy 030) Submitted by Vice Mayor Suds Jain Requesting to Place an Agenda Item at a Future Council Meeting to Discuss working with the Water District and any other agency with Jurisdiction to Widen the San Tomas Aquino Trail. The Discussion Should also include a Discussion of the Costs of a Study to Look at all the Opportunities for Widening the Trail and Associated Costs
  • Action on a Council Written Request (Council Policy 030) Submitted by Vice Mayor Jain Requesting to Place an Agenda Item at a Future Council Meeting to Discuss Allocating up to $150K to create a Neighborhood Stadium Relations Committee using funds from the SCSA budget (not the City of Santa Clara’s General Fund)
  • Action on a Council Written Request (Council Policy 030) Submitted by Vice Mayor Jain Requesting to Place an Agenda Item at a Future Council Meeting to Discuss Potential Uses, Unfunded Repairs and Finances (Income and Expenses) of Operating and Maintaining the Morse Mansion
  • Action on a Written Petition (Council Policy 030), Submitted by Kirk Vartan Requesting to Place an Agenda Item on a Future Council Meeting for Council to Review and Evaluate the Purchase of the Great America Theme Park. Ironically, Vartan submitted this request before Becker’s request to remove Patrick.

  1. BJ Fleck, not me. Just pointed out the odd pairing.

Ted, I have an open mind. But that means I do have a mind and notice odd pairings like this, and being a boomer I am not afraid to state the obvious. Too many live in fear these days and attack anyone that speaks up. Here is a list of 10 countries living under Sharia Law where homosexuality can be punished by death. And the article is from the leftist Washington Post.

So yeah, I do think it is an odd pairing.

  2. Ron Patrick has a right to be on the City Council. He had already been accepted, and went over and beyond to explain his residence situation. He had been straight forward.
Anthony Becker should be removed from the City Council for accepting illegal campaign contributions from the 49ers.

    • Who is more ridiculous of live tv

      Donald Trump
      Sean Hannity
      Vladmir Putin
      Anthony Becker

    • JBF hasn’t lived in SC in 10 years. He has no relevance here except to be paid by Jed Boy and disturb the peace.

  3. The 49er 5 Collusion scam
The definition of collusion “ illegal cooperation between ostensible opponents in a lawsuit” sounds familiar! Anyone who votes for this scam should be charge with collusion: Santa Clara DA should standby.

  4. I just want to point out that the last item, the admission tax is by far the most important item presented to the council in many years. I don’t think any of you realize the value of this, but you will fully understand after my presentation.

  5. Maybe I am overthinking this but are the wokesters tripping over themselves? Is it just me or is having Aug 2022 declared both American Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month AND Transgender History Month creating rather strange bedfellows? Just asking.

    • That’s a pretty ugly statement Howard Myers. It’s ok if you actually open your mind to the changing world around you, AND – what for it – even embrace and celebrate the change from the next generation. You don’t always have to be a Boomer.
