Free Compost Available on Saturday to Santa Clarans for Spring and Summer Gardens

By Robert Haugh

After yesterday’s rain, we are expecting some dry days. So Santa Clarans can get to work on spring and summer gardens.

The City has its free compost giveaway on Saturday, April 1 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.  Residents can pick up compost at the Corporation Yard, located at 1700 Walsh Ave.

This self-service event is exclusively for Mission City residents and will require proof of residency in the form of a current utility bill or personal identification.

Residents need to bring a shovel and a sturdy container like a 5-gallon bucket. The maximum limit is 40 gallons per household.

The compost will be available on a first-come-first-served basis and while supplies last.

For any questions, call the Department of Public Works at 408-615-3080 or email Environment@SantaClaraCA.gov.

  1. If one can’t make it this weekend, the 49er 5 gives out complementary buckets of manure infused compost at each city council meeting
