Santa Clara Residents Tell Why They Support the Suds Jain Recall

By Robert Haugh

The following are statements from some Santa Clara residents who live in District Five and have signed on to support the recall campaign of City Councilmember Suds Jain.  They have also signed the re-circulated petition. Some quotes were edited slightly for the sake of clarity.

“The recall (of Suds Jain) has become absolutely necessary because there’s been a clear and consistent failure to uphold public trust, with decisions repeatedly appearing to prioritize specific interests over the collective well-being and genuine concerns of our Santa Clara community.”

Debra Cordova

“Suds Jain is not as he presents himself. Every committee or commission on which I have seen him work, he has two objectives. To be in charge and to enlarge the scope and budget, with the objective being secondary to his self-aggrandizement.

“This misdirection of effort shows up in many ways. The idea of putting paid parking in downtown is just an example of his posturing at the expense of those in his own district, which he tends to ignore.”

Howard Myers

“We don’t have enough infrastructure to support high-density housing being added along El Camino Real and other roads, where increasing traffic is creating unsafe conditions.

“(With Suds Jain’s help), Prometheus Management Company and others are proposing more high-density housing to replace Moonlite Shopping Center, where we need another grocery store and businesses to sustain our residential community.”

Loretta Gilmartin

“Suds Jain ignores problems in his district. A resident had issues with a house in the neighborhood that may have been dealing drugs and engaging in other illegal activity.  Several attempts were made to contact Suds for help.  He didn’t return any calls. It got so bad, they sold their house and started renting in Willow Glen.

“The only relief came later with the help of a Santa Clara PD sergeant and some help from the Historical Heritage Commission.”

Yep, what goes around comes around.
    What karma will befall Gonzalez?

    • Jain has repeatedly told people that he ranks the power standing of people and ordinary citizens do not rank high enough for his attention.

  2. Suds Jain working with Prometheus?? Gee, I wonder who built in the area around the old downtown Santa Clara. What a hypocrite. By the way, Jain is contact with consultants regarding tge recall.

  3. David Kertes contacted me and asked if I knew any neighbors who would sign his petition for recall of Suds. I sent out an email telling my neighbors that David would be at our house for only 1/2 hour that evening, and he would be collecting signatures for a recall of Suds Jain. In that 1/2 hour 25 people came by to sign the petition. After that several neighbors contacted me saying that they had missed my email, or that they couldn’t come by for that small window, and how could they sign the petition? I think that says it all……that many people are unhappy in the neighborhood.

  4. Suds Jain is an abomination to public service. He is convinced he is smarter and better able to judge publuc affairs than the publuc. He has a personal hatred of Lisa Gillmor and has been a functionary of tge powers that be. Jain is more comfortable in a Soviet style system than American demrocacy.

  5. I have seen Suds waste money and staff time more than even Kevin Park. Take the little Franklin mall Parking lot. He kept mentioning it and asking the staff to waste time exploring the issue. He has no governance experience as we have all seen. He ran several times for City Council and lost because the citizen of Santa Clara felt he wouldn’t make a good City councilman and they where right. It wasn’t until the 49ers used their Independent Expenditure Money on Tv add and mailer that he and others got elected.
