Close Encounters Coming to Santa Clara for Alien-Con
By Joshua Habito
Hundreds of people are preparing for their own personal close encounters as the first ever Alien Con prepares to make its landing at the Santa Clara Convention Center on October 28-30, 2016.
From Bay Area locals to visitors flocking in droves to Santa Clara from cities all over the country, this astronomical event allures people from all over. Santa Clara is no stranger to hosting unique fan-centric events, having previously played host to the extraterrestrial and mysterious – hosting UFO Con in Sept. 2012 and March 2015.
With the backing of HISTORY®, Cosmic-Con® and Famous Monsters of Filmland®, Alien Con promises to be bigger in vision for something larger than Santa Clara has yet witnessed in terms of extraterrestrial activity.
According to the Alien Con website, “this is no conventional convention” and it sets itself apart by offering a plethora of unique experiences that await convention goers, as do several celebrity and scientific-minded guests that will be in attendance, including:
- Giorgio A. Tsoukalos, the leading expert and Co-executive producer of Ancient Aliens on HISTORY®.
- Autograph sessions and photo ops with Film and TV icons of Science Fiction and the chance to meet them both during the convention, as well as at private events in a more intimate setting.
- A fan film festival plus the newest advances in video game technology mixed in with some of the retro games from yesteryear.
- Q&A panels with stars and experts discussing their roles in helping shape the Landscape of Science and Science Fiction.
- Exhibits and artifacts showcasing forays into the “what-ifs” of alien exploration.
According to Alien Con’s official website, visitors will “boldly go where no convention has gone before,” and they are poised to deliver with all the exciting events planned.

Alien-Con has scheduled it’s 2017 convention for the San Jose convention center and is invoking a non-compete clause to force The Alternative Press Expo out of its early October dates. Alien-con may become a thing, but supporting it is to the detriment of a locally run event.
Alien Con takes place at the Santa Clara Convention Center. It is not at the San Jose Convention Center.
The article mentions the 2016 site as Santa Clara. A commenter made a reply that the 2017 event will be in San Jose.

What’s good, everyone? I recently contributed an article to the Santa Clara News blog that talks about the inagural Alien Con that’s making its landing in Santa Clara, CA on October 28-30. Stay tuned to Disk Read Error to see my impressions of this convention, as well as the side event I’m attending where I get to have dinner with the three original Godzilla tokusatsu actors.
You know, no big deal.
