On January 12, 2017, at approximately 11:50 p.m., a resident on the 300 block of Madison Street reported a male suspect in their garage going through their belongings. On arrival, officers attempted to detain the suspect, but the suspect fled from the officers. Seconds later, officers located the suspect in the 300 block of Jefferson Street. The suspect did not comply with officers’ commands and one of the officers discharged their firearm at the suspect. The suspect was not struck by the discharged round. The suspect fled into the neighborhood.
Officers quickly set up a perimeter in search of the suspect. The search lasted about 30 minutes. The suspect was then found hiding in a yard of the 400 block of Madison Street. The suspect refused to cooperate and follow the officers’ commands but was eventually taken into custody following a struggle.
The suspect is identified as Sergey Ryabykh, a 29-year-old with an unknown address. Ryabykh was arrested and transported to Santa Clara Police Department for processing. He was later booked in Santa Clara County Jail for burglary, possession of methamphetamine, and resisting arrest.
