Fireworks, Baseball, & BBQ – Happy Independence Day
By Robert Haugh
Whatever suits your palate, there’s ample local activities and events for all ages throughout the greater Silicon Valley in celebration of the 4th of July.
Here in the Mission City, the 4th of July sees the annual All-City picnic followed by live music performances and a fireworks extravaganza.
Santa Clara’s celebration features great toe-tapping music by the Deja Vu Band and Buchser Jazz Band (both led by Santa Clara icon David Ladd Anderson), The Megatones and Pop Fiction. Other festivities include carnival games, jump houses, face painting, kids’ crafts, free public swimming at the International Swim Center (limited capacity – first-come, first-served), information booths, food sales and several food trucks. Tip – arrive early for nearby parking (school lot parking proceeds benefit the Santa Clara Schools Foundation) and bring your own lawn chairs.
Another popular local attraction is the 10th Annual Rose, White & Blue parade in the Rose Garden neighborhood, just on the cusp of Santa Clara. One of the Board members is Santa Clara business owner Mike Hennessy.
California’s Great America also has a fireworks display.
In addition to Santa Clara, most Silicon Valley cities are celebrating the red, white and blue as well. A detailed list of 4th of July events.
Wherever you celebrate freedom, independence and liberty, be sure to be safe.Don’t drink and drive. Don’t use illegal fireworks. Enjoy the holiday with friends and families. Happy 4th of July!
