AWARDS: The Parade of Champions and Publisher/Lobbyist Miles Barber

By Robert Haugh

The Good —  The Leg Drop Award:

The Parade of Champions will return tomorrow morning in the Mission City. It’s the first time since 1995.  A lot of people made it happen with countless volunteer hours. Hope to see everyone there.

The Bad —  The Jabroni Award:

Publisher/Lobbyist Miles Barber keeps proving his critics right. On Monday, Stand Up for Santa Clara’s Burt Field wrote an oped. He listed lots of problems with Barber and the Santa Clara Weekly. Here’s one of the things Field wrote:

Barber’s publication has major funding from the 49ers and Barber routinely defends the team. He even defends them on things like their refusal to disclose documents or follow city law’s like the curfew. A good community paper wouldn’t do that.

That’s what Field wrote on Monday.

Guess what Barber wrote in his column on Thursday?  Yup — a defense of the 49ers. And he used the team’s talking points about getting rid of the weekday curfew!

Maybe we should create a psychic award and give it to Field.

  1. Manuel, I know it’s hard to grasp the message you put out all by yourself which basically asked for the response you received. You compared banning pot shops which are being proven as we go along to not be so healthy for people with a noise curfew meant for the protection of children and really anyone else who needs it getting adequate sleep. Opposites should NOT be compared and not everything has to do with Jed York making more money.
Now, before you say one more word, maybe read all of the laws that apply here for both the city and county regarding NOISE. Oh, too much reading? Ok. Well, trust that there have been sound laws in place since long before the stadium came here.
The City Council has this covered. And they’re on the right side I believe. Loud music at a concert is not all that matters. Babies Matter – School Aged Children Matter – Working Adults Matter- Sick People and Especially Seniors who need as much sleep to get well as possible matter.
That’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it. Go figure.

  2. Many people voted for the stadium rightfully thinking that it will make money for the city. This stupid curfew will cut into the profits. It’s the squeeky wheel syndrome again, a few people complain about the infrequent late night noise so the city council caves in to those people instead of serving all the people of Santa Clara. Like banning Pot Shops and having a Levi Stadium curfew it again shows the incompetence of most of the supervisors, mayor and city manager.

    • Hay Sousa\ You sound like a druggy. Druggies love POT and making a lot of noise I think you also have a bad memory Do you remember that everyone decided to put a stadium in the middle of a City? You should have spoken up then. How would you like to go to bed, right next to a concert. Would you like the music to blast away till midnight? The Council is doing the right thing , they care about the neighbors. Go City Council—you really care about us. Thank You

    • Nice try, Dorothy, like many others you zero in on pot when you don’t have any valid arguments. I dont use
pot. Werent you taught as a child that it’s not nice to call other people names?
