AWARDS: Best and Worst of the Week — City Clerk Hosam Haggag and 49ers CEO Jed York

By Robert Haugh

The Good — The Leg Drop Award:

In 2018, the City established a Dark Money Ordinance that is supposed to prevent corporations or groups from spending anonymously in Santa Clara elections. That’s what happened with BluPAC in 2016. That group had lots of ties to the 49ers and tried to take over the Council.

City Clerk Hosam Haggag is enforcing the ordinance this year. We applaud him for keeping Santa Clara elections clean.

The Bad — The Jabroni Award:

Days after Haggag sent out warning letters, Jed York was forced to file reports this week disclosing that he’s spending $317,125 to defeat Measure C. That’s the measure that the Charter Review Committee came up with to create three districts in Santa Clara.

Looks like York hasn’t given up on his efforts to take over the Council.
