Santa Clara Cancels Citywide Garage Sale, Clean Up Campaign Still On

By Robert Haugh

Another tradition that won’t happen this year in the Mission City is our citywide garage sale.

Due to concerns over COVID-19, the event held in April has been canceled. Garage sale registrations will not be accepted.

According to City staff, the County Public Health Officer strongly discourages any gatherings with people from other households.

Clean Up Campaign

The annual Cleanup Campaign is still on this year for May 3-28.

During your designated collection week, you can set out furniture, appliances, e-waste, tires, construction debris, and yard waste.

But, all concrete, asphalt, dirt, brick, rock, drywall, and sawdust will be required to be in a construction debris bulk bag.  The City wants to prevent potential stormwater runoff pollution.

Bulk bags can be purchased at retail outlets or from the City starting April 6. Each bag costs $22.24. Purchases can be made via phone by calling 408-615-2300.

There will be a $150 fine for failure to use a debris bulk bag to contain construction debris.

One cubic yard of bagged debris will be picked up for free. Additional bagged cubic yards will  cost $25 each.

For more information, visit SantaClaraCA.gov/cleanup or call the Dept. of Public Works at 408-615-3080.

  1. Suds loves to promote micro units. What an awful existence. Perhaps he should redevelop his 3,000 plus square foot home and move into a micro unit.

Just like his heroes Al Gore and John Kerry, these accommodations do not apply to them, the ruling class. Only to the residents of Santa Clara.
