For the last four months, the Santa Clara Police Department (SCPD) has tested and used drones in the Mission City.
On a few occasions, drones have been used to assist with traffic collisions and serving arrest warrants.
According to the SCPD, drones “serve as an aviation asset that provides a different perspective on a dangerous situation and supports investigations.’
The drone purchases were approved by the City Council in 2020. Since then, SCPD secured funding and created drone policies and procedures.
Eight police officers were trained and licensed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The City purchased nine drones that are outfitted with cameras that can take still images and record video.

Here’s the drone activity log since August 2022:

More info can be found on the SCPD drone website.
Anyone who BELIEVES the SCPD have ONLY been using drones these past 4 months, well….
