Former Santa Clara Communications Director to Run for San Jose City Council

By Robert Haugh

Lenka Wright was Santa Clara’s City Communications Director for two years. She moved at the end of 2020.

Now, she wants to be the next San Jose City Councilmember from District 10.

She’s planning on running against the incumbent, Arjun Batra, to represent South San Jose next year.

Wright was in the Mission City during the pandemic years from 2018 to 2020.  She left just before the 49er Five took over City Hall.

Wright was responsible for remaking the City’s website. While the website isn’t great, it’s better than it used to be.

Santa Clara News Online remembers Wright as being generally helpful and responsive to media inquiries. But she was not known for being proactive or innovative with the communications office.

San Jose Spotlight broke the story about Wright running. She’s described as a “longtime government leader.”

Wright has not worked in San Jose since 2016 when she was the Assistant Director of Communications.

After that, she worked for two year stints in the cities of Bellevue (WA), Santa Clara, and Mountain View. Wright has been the top communications staff person in each city.
