Tomorrow is the first Santa Clara City Council meeting of the New Year.
It’s a brief agenda with two eyebrow-raising items.
City Manager Jovan Grogan could get a $13,000 pay raise after just months on the job. If approved by the Council, Grogan’s annual salary will increase from $405,056.40 to $418,220.76. Indicted Councilman Anthony Becker is slated to be appointed as Vice Mayor. No joke.
Here are the topics:
- Public hearing: Action on Architectural Review for a Single-Family Residential Addition at 1485 Bellomy Street.
- Public hearing: Action to authorize the City Manager to complete negotiations and execute an Amendment to the Renewable Energy Purchase and Sale Agreement with Energia Sierra Juarez U.S., LLC, to purchase renewable energy from the Cimarrón Wind Project
- Public Hearing: Action to approve a Merit-based salary adjustment for the City Manager and to Adopt a Resolution approving and adopting the Updated Unclassified Salary Plan that increases the annual base salary for the City Manager to $418,220.76
- Public Hearing: Action on annual appointment of Vice Mayor and Chaplain
Just read the council agenda for tonight. City staff made reco to appoint Becker as VM. Shameless.

Ah heck just call the whole thing out:
Becker was indicted by the DA’s office and faces a felony perjury charge for allegations he lied to a civil grand jury about leaking the grand jury report. He also faces a misdemeanor charge for failing to uphold his public duty to keep the report private.
There. Fixed it!
