A 24-year-old man, Sergio Colin Gomez, was arrested on Tuesday for the alleged murder of his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son.

Officers responded to a shooting call at a Poinciana Drive residence around 2:30 a.m.. The child’s mother reported her live-in boyfriend shooting her son.

Despite CPR efforts, the boy was pronounced dead at the scene. Gomez was apprehended near the house and treated for minor injuries at a local hospital. 

A handgun was recovered from the scene.

Gomez is expected to be booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of murder. 

His relationship to the child and the motive for the shooting remain under investigation.
