It’s been a while since Santa Clara News awarded the Leg Drop and Jabroni Awards. 

Now, it’s back by popular demand with the good and bad that happened in our Mission City in April.

The Good – Leg Drop Award

Santa Clara Business leader Kirk Vartan and ethicist Dr. Tom Shanks share the Leg Drop Award for publicly calling out 49ers Executive Al Guido’s apparent conflicts of interest.

It looks like Guido’s actions are going to get some serious attention from the DA’s office even though it happened years ago. Better late than never.

Here is the letter Shanks, former Councilwoman Teresa O’Neill and SCU Professor Pedro Hernandez-Ramos sent to DA Jeff Rosen on April 24:

The Bad – Jabroni Award

City Attorney Glen Googins gets the Jabroni Award for ignoring Guido’s potential conflict even though he was asked about it months ago. He even said recently: “Regarding Mr. Vartan and Mr. Shanks, they are certainly entitled to their opinions and may express them as they see fit.  They are not my clients, however.”

However, after the DA expressed interest, Googins now seems interested in Vartan and Shanks’ opinions.
