To deal with the latest California heat dome, Santa Clara has set up cooling centers through Friday.
The Respite/Cooling Centers are open during regular hours on June 5-7:
- Senior Center: 1303 Fremont St. (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.)
- Community Recreation Center: 969 Kiely Blvd. (8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.)
- Central Park Library: 2635 Homestead Rd. (10 a.m. to 7 p.m.)
- Mission Branch Library: 1098 Lexington St. (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
- Northside Branch Library: 695 Moreland Way (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
Residents are advised to take heat precautions due to the risk of heat-related illnesses. This includes:
- Drinking plenty of fluids with electrolytes.
- Staying out of the sun and in air conditioning when possible.
- Never leave children or pets in vehicles.
- Calling 911 for those suffering from severe heat reactions.
- Checking on vulnerable people who may lack air conditioning.
