Santa Clara Police Carry Flame of Hope to Santa Clara University for Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run

By Robert Haugh

Last Friday, June 28, the Santa Clara Police Department proudly carried the Flame of Hope from Sunnyvale to Santa Clara University for the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR).

SCPD received the Flame of Hope from the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety and carried it on the final leg of the 2024 LETR.

The Torch Run culminated at the Special Olympics Northern California Summer Games. This year, Santa Clara University hosted athletes and coaches for the Summer Games featuring swimming, track and field, bocce, and tennis on June 28 to 30.

LETR, a campaign benefiting the Special Olympics, started in 1981 and has since become the largest grassroots fundraising movement for the organization. It has raised $900 million globally and more than $20 million in Northern California.

SCPD is the state’s third top fundraising partner for the Special Olympics. All funds raised help retain sports, health, fitness, and education programs for Special Olympics Northern California.

  1. Wait… is this for real!!! Just to confirm, Santa Clara has had a positive thing happen, and it’s still early July!!
I honestly can not wait for November.

Better days are ahead for our City. Love we can point to the SC Police Dept and give them a High 5!!!
    Have we made mistakes..of course.
Do we learn to trust people ever again, I sure hope so.
Where do we start…How about, “Never put the Fox in charge of the Hen House”!!!!
    MANCO…. GOTTAGO…
I can understand not fully understanding just how bad someone can lie to you. But really????
It was never a question of “If”, it was just a question of “When”.
    Evidence
    Fired City Attorney
    Fired City Manager
No Performance Rent paid to our City ever since Santa Clara City Attorney Mr. Brian Doyle was fired in September of 2021.
Spent Millions to get “Sock Puppets” in place.
    Then
Signed Non Discloser Agreements that could cripple our City, and at the same time line the pockets of our Renter with $$$.
    Am I being overly dramatic. Don’t know….
There are just two things in life I am sure of.
    1. Everyone has a last breath.
    2. I don’t know what I don’t know.
    So why the secrecy?
    Here is a thought….
What do we tell our kids if someone ever tells them not to tell anyone, in essence “Let’s keep this our little secret”?
Have we ever suggested that they signed a Non Discloser Agreement?
Nope…. we tell them to Run,
Run to your Parents / Police and tell them everything.
To be quite honest, I don’t know if it’s good or bad. (Remember item#2 above)
I want more good days, I’m so tired of all this BS.

Sorry this was suppose to be a happy post!!!
