A recent statewide political poll included some local Santa Clara-specific questions.
Information was shared with Santa Clara News Online (SCNO) on the condition that specific statewide numbers could not be disclosed. But general information about how Santa Clarans felt about statewide propositions could be.
SCNO also received information about local questions that were added to the statewide survey.
Here are the local highlights:
- 49ers co-owner Jed York is unpopular. His positive-negative rating is 33-43.
- 49ers spending on Santa Clara elections is also unpopular. 53 percent said they would not trust a candidate who was financially supported by the team. 19 percent didn’t care.
- 58 percent of Santa Clarans have heard about the Grand Jury reports.
Santa Clarans are most undecided on statewide propositions and the numbers could change because of well-funded campaigns.
The following propositions tested better in Santa Clara than the state average for each measure:
- PROP 2: Public Education Facilities Bond Measure
- PROP 3: Right to Marry and Repeal Prop 8
- PROP 4: Parks, Environment, Energy, and Water Bond Measure
- PROP 5: Lower Supermajority Requirement to 55% for Local Bond Measures to Fund Housing and Public Infrastructure Amendment
- PROP 6: Remove Involuntary Servitude as Punishment for Crime Amendment
- PROP 32: Increase minimum wage to $18 an hour
The following propositions tested worse in Santa Clara than the statewide average for each measure:
- PROP 33: Repeals Costa Hawkins Rental Housing Act
- PROP 36: Drug and Theft Crime Penalties and Treatment-Mandated Felonies Initiative
The following propositions tested almost the same in Santa Clara as the statewide average for each measure:
- PROP 34: Requires health care providers to spend 98% of revenues from federal discount prescription drug programs on direct patient care
- PROP 35: Permanently authorizes a tax on managed care organizations to fund Medi-Cal programs
The survey was conducted statewide August 4-8 with 1,000 respondents. There was an oversample in Santa Clara of 300 respondents.
Please vote no on all of the ballot measures except Prop 36, let’s put more criminals behind bars where they belong. Also It is important for Santa Clara that Prop 5 fails. Let’s not make it easier for Santa Clara to pass its $400 million bond measure. If residents pass it with a 2/3 majority then it is acceptable. Please do not lower the bar for big money measures.
I have a lot of questions about this opinion piece. Why would a statewide poll of 1000 people include 300 from Santa Clara? California has 39 million people and Santa Clara has 126K which is 0.3% of the population of California so why have 30% of the respondents be from Santa Clara? Who paid for the poll? What was the company that did the poll? What were the actual questions? Was this a push poll? Where can I see the full poll numbers? Why does Robert Haugh have confidential information from the poll? How statistically significant was the poll size? Was it done over the internet or over the phone? What percentage landlines versus cellphones? I can only assume this was not a truly scientific poll but was politically motivated.
I have good reasons to not believe many of these blog posts. How do we know this blog post is true? Give us one good reason to believe this isn’t made up out of thin air.

Maybe then you can better understand why our City is quickly learning who to believe, and who to doubt.
I seriously can’t blame the local media outlets. They desperately need the money.
With the amount of money being fed to them, many would be out of business. So really who is going to turn them down? The ugly downside is you end up with a parasitic relationship. Both thriving by working with each other.
The end users end up with a very slanted / bias view of the world.
Gee….Where have we heard that lately?
So if you are going to find at least one good reason, my suggestion is to try looking outside of Santa Clara / San Jose.
I really think that is a fair and reasonable request given what we now know about Local Media.

Hey Jeff Houston! How do we know that you as chair of the recent charter review committee really did your due diligence determining whether or not to keep an elected city clerk and chief of police? How do we know you really listened to the voters? Give one good reason anyone should believe you didn’t help waste $500,000 on a fake ballot measure. Give one good reason why the ballot measure failed miserably after the POA did a survey and got the same results? I’ll give you a reason. You didn’t listen to the residents! Thanks to you and your buddy Suds and all your colluding, you made up a ballot measure out of thin air and wasted taxpayer monies. Shame.On.You!

I am now talking to anyone who is over 18, lives in Santa Clara and is registered to vote, or at least willing to register to vote. I am now officially “That Guy”.
Bottomline, life is too short to spend the rest of it trying to fix a wrong.
Yes I admit, I made a mistake. I, along with many others put our trust in a man. A man who said over and over just how much he and his small company were going to do to help benefit our City if we just trusted them, and gave them a home.

Just ask yourself what has the last few years been like for our City?
Ever since the 49ers got involved with our local politics, people like Indicted Felon Anthony Becker came so close (within 700 votes) of actually being our Mayor???
Below is an actual quote from our Indicted for Felony 49er Council Member on the night the votes were being counted.
Becker said Tuesday the millions the 49ers spent to support him weren’t a factor in the race. “I don’t think it helped at all. The mayor’s record speaks for itself and I think that’s what people are noticing,” he said.
Question Mr. Becker, when is your next court date?
Please register to vote. Please talk to your neighbors. If not, we just have 30 more years of being a “Company Town”.
