The City of Santa Clara and the Magical Bridge Foundation celebrated the much anticipated grand opening of the Magical Bridge Playground in Central Park with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 28. 

The Playground is purpose-built to serve the entire community, including those living with physical and cognitive disabilities, autism, visual and hearing impairments, as well as Santa Clara’s aging population. 

The project was funded by community donors, the City, the County, State of California and the Magical Bridge Foundation.

Speakers included Mayor Lisa Gillmor, District 4 Councilman Kevin Park, County Supervisor Susan Ellenberg and City Manager Jovan Grogan.

The entire City Council attended. There were some scattered boos when Councilmember Anthony Becker was introduced.  

County Supervisor Joe Simitian was present as were representatives for Assemblyman Evan Low and State Senator Aisha Wahab. Miss California Kimberly Vernon was also there.

The celebration featured entertainment from Dream Achievers Band, an award-winning local music act with autism. Magician Robert Strong also performed for guests throughout the event. 

Cruisin’ Café provided free ice cream to hundreds of children made possible by a generous donation in honor of Nana Biaggi.

Nestled among redwoods and sycamores in Central Park, the new playground offers a variety of features, such as: spin zone, two-story playhouse with a community stage and amphitheater, climbing structures, wheelchair-accessible swings and three Hideaway Huts providing a quiet retreat.
