Community Support Needed for Holiday Meal Distribution in Santa Clara

By Robert Haugh

Thanksgiving is quickly approaching. But not everyone has the food for a warm Thanksgiving meal.

The St. Justin Parish Community Ministry is seeking assistance in providing 400 Santa Clara families with food for their Thanksgiving dinners.

One of the major sources of turkeys, the Second Harvest Food Bank had to cut back significantly on the food they give to the parish’s community ministry.

Santa Clarans can help. This Saturday, November 23 (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.) and Sunday, November 24 (8 a.m. to 1 p.m.) the ministry will be collecting turkeys and grocery gift cards.

Donations can be dropped off at the parish hall behind St. Justin Church at 2655 Homestead Road (next to the Santa Clara Central Library).

Families will be picking up bags of groceries Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

  1. I would love to help in the future as I have been a Santa Claran for 35 yrs. I volunteer for Second Harvest and understand the significant cut mentioned. I will not be available this weekend however am definitely interested in assisting in the future. My email is listed below. Please feel free to contact me

  2. St. Justin and its parishioners have ALWAYS provided very much to the less fortunate in our community.

It is certainly a time to give aid and comfort to those truly needing assistance.

It always saddens me to recall those driving in BWMs, Mercedes, and other fancy cars thru St. Justin asking for food and care that ought to gone to those more deserving.

Reminds me of COVID when the Mayor and city council handed out food to at least one person driving a brand new $60,000 (or more!) Land Rover. I am not sure why, and I cannot speculate as to their needs. But my family doesn’t own one of those fancy cars. Nor did we look for “free” food at the expense of the less fortunate during that time.

To those Santa Clarans with big hearts, thank you. To the others, well,….. I’ll stop here.

    See 0:30 seconds….
