Santa Clara Vice Mayor Anthony Becker is guilty of felony perjury for leaking a Grand Jury report to the 49ers and lying about it.
The jury returned a verdict this morning after only a few hours.
He faces up to four years in prison. Judge Javier Alcala will determine sentencing later.

here’s the real deal, jose. 49ers still have 5 bought council plus city staff doing their bidding. none of them respect the legal process evidenced by reaction to CGJ reports. SC needs a clean house from top down. Time to get to work.

Suds was complicit in his involvement. He knew Becker’s actions were illegal, were detrimental to the city and would erode public trust. However, he chose to see something and say NOTHING.
This should be alarming to all. Suds put his own interests before the city and the community. However, SC voters were fooled again by voting him.
It’s hard to blame Suds alone. Afterall, we get what we voted for. I did not vote for Suds, Park nor Gonzalez.
Often we hear people whine about voter turnout, and some actually would like to see voting mandatory. I am not concerned about how many people vote but very concerned about the number of informed voters that vote. So many do no research before voting. Obviously.
Maybe now he will roll-over and expose how the 49ers have been working behind the political scenes for years; naming names along the way. Maybe then he could find forgiven in the SC community.

Larry, you are absolutely correct about Suds Jain. He covered the crime for Becker and under Cali law Jain is a textbook accessory to Becker’s felony crime. Suds should also resign for the sake of Santa Clara.
Government Code Section 1770:
An office becomes vacant on the happening of any of the following events before the expiration of the term:
…(h) His or her conviction of a felony or of any offense involving a violation of his or her official duties. An officer shall be deemed to have been convicted under this subdivision when trial court judgment is entered. For purposes of this subdivision, “trial court judgment” means a judgment by the trial court either sentencing the officer or otherwise upholding and implementing the plea, verdict, or finding.
California Elections Code Section 20 (a):
A person shall not be considered a candidate for, and is not eligible to be elected to, any state or local elective office if the person has been convicted of a felony involving accepting or giving, or offering to give, any bribe, the embezzlement of public money, extortion or theft of public money, perjury, or conspiracy to commit any of those crimes.
It’s too bad they had to give Rahul Chandhok immunity to make their case. I would love to see the 49ers take some heat. They basically started this whole steaming pile of manure.
As far as I understand the law and I am not a lawyer it was illegal for Becker to send the draft report to Chandhok and even more illegal for him to lie about it under oath. It was not illegal for Chandhok to receive it from Becker or for Carolyn Schuk to receive it from Becker. It was not illegal for Ramona Giwargis to receive it from Chandhok.
What would have made it illegal for Chandhok would maybe have been if it was part of a quid pro quo corruption payment scheme but there is no evidence that Becker has ever been directly paid by the Forty Niners or anyone associated with them.
All the money the Forty Niners spent to benefit Becker in the form of political campaign spending is perfectly legal thanks to the supreme court ruling that we can all thank Republican supreme court justices for.
Buchser Alum, the reason Chandok, Elena Caple and other 49ers associates and consultants were given immunity is that they were culpable for attempting to intimidate and influence the grand jurors. That is also a crime. Do you really think the 49ers employees and consultants would have agreed to play ball otherwise? They definitely were also in the hot seat and they got away scott-free by throwing Becker under the bus.
Interestingly, they only have immunity from the DA, but they could certainly face other legal challenges via other means.

So going forward, does he continue to try and blame others?
602 days to get to this point. Now we wait until January 31st, 9am, to find out how long he will be known as “Inmate 1234”.
That’s also the Day he will be fitted for his Orange Jumpsuit.
Even if he gets 1 Day, he will forever be known known as a Convicted Fellon.

It is no longer legal to require job applicants to indicate any criminal past they may have but employers can run a criminal background check on applicants before hiring them.
It’s on Suds Jain dereliction of duty to report his first hand knowledge that Becker broke the law that allowed Becker those extra 602 days in office. Think of all the critical votes Becker made on things that will greatly impact all Santa Clara citizens. All the one sided votes Becker made in 49ers financial deals favor losing the city millions of dollars. The votes he made on the 49ers side regarding the super bowl and world cup. As a citizen I am outraged and feel powerless as long as long as the 49ers are able to, perfectly legally, put millions into pacs to buy elections. I don’t know the answer to changing the current, screwed up, campaign finance laws.
I hope those in Suds district recall him in light of what has been revealed and where Suds allegiance truly is when it comes to his city office.
Observation, imagine how the two people on all those council 5-2 votes feel. At least they haven’t given up.
And Jain should be right behind him!!!!
