Tomorrow’s Santa Clara City Council meeting has several items on the agenda including the Levi’s Stadium budget that includes the 49ers’ request to have the City pay for office space for their employees.
Here are the agenda items:
- Closed session — Conference with Labor Negotiators — Employee Organization(s): Unit # 2 – Police Officers Association Unit #5, 7, & 8 – City of Santa Clara Employees Association
- Recognition of the Santa Clara High School Varsity Flag Football Team for League Championship
- Special presentation — 2025 Santa Clara Relay for Life
- Proclamation of Women’s History Month
- Action on the Proposed Santa Clara Stadium Authority Fiscal Year 2025/26 Operating, Debt Service and Capital Budget, Stadium Authority Budget, Compliance and Management Policies, and 2025 Non-NFL Events Marketing Plan
- Action to Adopt the Updated Wade Brummal Scholarship Program Guidelines
- Action on the Proposed Mission College Location for the City’s 4th of July Special Event Activities
Although it rarely enters the discussion, the 49ers also have offices on their Training Facility which they have on a separate subsidized lease with the City. The public already subsidizes this billionaire oligarch to the tune of millions of dollars. City staff is completely inept at presenting the financial and legal issues regarding this lopsided relationship. They are much less capable of negotiating with strength on behalf of Santa Clara.
The Big 49er scam
Levi stadium has 2 office spaces, one on level 2 east side a the other Just back of the ticket area. These areas should be used for stadium operations not football operations. Any team football office space should be rented by the team. That would include HOST committee for superbowl and soccer championship. It all comes down to stadium authority money turns out to be city tax payer’s money no madder how you slice the pie. Possible they need more space for their soccer ventures or playing nice with the international soccer people. Hopefully the Santa Clara 5 can give the tax payers a win for once.
As usual, the city council meeting will be dominated by 49ers and Levi’s Stadium related issues, while other important city business and quality of life issues for all the citizens is neglected.
