Santa Clara City Manager Poised to Receive Pay Raise, $631K in Total Compensation

By Robert Haugh

At last night’s Santa Clara City Council meeting, City Manager Jovan Grogan was poised to receive a major pay raise.

The action was the last item on the agenda, and the decision happened after Santa Clara News Online’s deadline.

More information about the Council vote will appear tomorrow.

Here’s the information provided to SCNO before the vote yesterday.

  1. This is pretty shocking but not unexpected. Typical California politics pay a lot–don’t get much in return

  2. Not Adam West. I think you are wrong. The whole 2 hour discussion just showed the lack of leadership by the city council, city manager and city attorney. Kevin Park spoke up. The City has a had a huge amount of time to come up with an announcement, declaration of a stand regarding this. In fact tonight’s leading story on NBC was the Feds involvement with the Super Bowl. A San Jose City Council member was interviewed.

    • Santa Clara is not SJ.
SCPD is responsible for public safety.
They are ready for SB. Chat with the Chief.
      They don’t control the feds.
Leave the safety of the city and visitors
up to the real public safety and not
Batman wannabes or God forbid Kevin Park.

  3. Robert Haugh, I think you really missed the story of the week, or month! Our son just texted us from Thailand, asking if we saw Batman last night at the City Council meeting.

  4. Well Burt, I decided I should look up exactly what was said, so that I could explain. However, much to my surprise I found that there is a whole Reddit thread about Karen Hardy and the discussion last night that Batman took part of. Last night at the meeting, Kevin Park brought up that the city of Santa Clara should have a plan in place in regards to ICE and the Super Bowl. It didn’t seem that the Council nor the City Attorney wanted this discussed. It appeared that the council was caught off guard by this, and Karen Hardy seemed to say that any plans are secret. However, they spent two hours on deciding that all of this should be discussed at the next council meeting next week. I tell you, that city council meetings are better than any currently scheduled TV show. PS Mary Grizzle posted a screen shot of Batman in the District 5 Facebook group.

  5. Interesting…
Remind me why we got rid of our former City Manager?

    Just The Facts Ma’am

  6. While I’m in the hospital recovering from serious illness, I have decided to adapt the novel THE OCTOPUD by Frank Norrid

Not railroad w professional sports team takes over land for an arena and disrupts the town.

  7. I am in the wrong line of work. I have a Master’s Degree in Engineering, and I am nowhere close to those numbers. I will therefore tell my kids to go into government work, and forget about science and engineering … 🤣🤣🤣

  8. But you could have written about Batman showing up at last night’s meeting.
    Very surprising!
