North and southbound lanes on Lafayette between Martin Avenue and Central Expressway were closed Wednesday afternoon, according to the Santa Clara Fire Department.

PG&E and fire crews were investigating a gas leak in the area of Lafayette Street and Walsh Avenue.

People were asked to avoid the area.

PG&E provided no updates on its X/Twitter feed, which is mostly promotional info for the company.

The Santa Clara Fire Department posted this update around 5 p.m. yesterday, but no information was provided by late Wednesday.
