Santa Clara’s annual Street Dance returns tonight, Friday, Aug. 7, with a new location, live music, food trucks and plenty of room for dancing.
The free event runs from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at 900 Lafayette St.
David Martin’s House Party will take the stage from 7 to 9 p.m., performing a mix of classic rock, disco, country and funk.
Residents are encouraged to bring friends, lawn chairs and their dancing shoes.
The Street Dance is presented by the Santa Clara Cultural Commission and has become one of the city’s most popular summer events.
This year’s food lineup includes La Burbuja Food Truck, Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee Truck, Chick N’ Bros, Saigon Street 2: Banh Mi & More, Ivan’s Baked Potatoes, BBQ Kalbi, Cousins Maine Lobster, Kona Ice, Churros El Guero, Curiel’s Pop Kettle Corn and Cruising Cafe.
Food and drink purchases will be contactless payment only.
The Santa Clara Sister Cities Association will also sell beer and wine during the event. Proceeds will support student exchange programs with Santa Clara’s sister cities in Izumo, Japan; Coimbra, Portugal; and Limerick, Ireland.
Free parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at the 1000 Lafayette St. parking lot. The entrance is located on Benton Street.
Additional parking may be available in nearby neighborhoods and shopping plazas. Drivers should watch for posted parking restrictions and possible fees.
The move to Lafayette Street gives the event a new downtown-style setting while keeping the familiar Street Dance formula: music, food and a community dance floor under the summer evening sky.
Admission is free.
