A Great City Summer Program — Lunch and Learn

By Robert Haugh

I know how every parent wonders what to do with their kids during the summer.  I do.

This summer, the City gives us a great option. The Mission Branch Library is hosting the “Lunch at the Library” summer meal program. It’s for local schoolchildren who are on summer break.

Santa Clara schoolchildren under the age of 18 can show up for lunch service and lunchtime activities every weekday from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

Then there will be daily learning opportunities. The library will have hands-on activities for STEAM topics: science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.

This is an especially good for parents who can’t afford lunches.

“For many residents, this is a vital service that bridges the nutrition gap that is normally met by their school’s lunch program during the academic year,” according to the City’s press release.
