Council Preview: Budget, Another El Camino Development, and Santa Clara Residents May Get to Play Golf in Sunnyvale

By Robert Haugh

Here are some interesting items for tomorrow’s Council meeting:

  • After weeks of hearings, the budget will be on the agenda for approval.

  • There will be a public hearing on the Catalina II Residential Development Project at 1433-1493 El Camino Real. SCS Development wants to build 39-unit residential development with seven live/work units on three contiguous parcels.  It’s a total of 1.70 acres. It’s on El Camino Real between Lincoln Street and Monroe Street.

  • Santa Clarans may be able to play golf in Sunnyvale.  The City Place project will replace the Santa Clara Golf and Tennis Club (SCG&TC), so the City is trying to accommodate Mission City golfers. If both cities agree, here’s what’s being discussed:

    • Resident Fees – Santa Clara residents will pay a fee equivalent to the current Sunnyvale resident rates.

    •  High School Teams – Golf Teams for Wilcox, Santa Clara, and Cupertino High Schools will pay a fee equivalent to that paid by Sunnyvale High School per season.

    • Instructional Golf – Sunnyvale will provide an instructional golf program to Santa Clara residents

    • Clubs – Sunnyvale will provide current SCG&TC clubs, groups, ambassadors and volunteers an opportunity to transition to Sunnyvale Golf.

    • Tournaments – favorable rates for tournaments that had used SCG&TC for past tournaments.

    • Promotion – Sunnyvale will provide content, website direction, and email communication to Mission City residents.
