The 49ers recently sold minority stakes in the team to three well-known Bay Area families.

The Deeter, Griffith, and Khosla families were publicly named in the team’s press release. But there was no mention of another addition to the ownership ranks—Jed York’s twin sisters: Jenna and Mara York.

That’s right. The daughters of Denise DeBartolo York are now co-owners of the family’s $6 billion-plus franchise. 

You’d think that would merit at least a line in the team’s press release. Instead, their elevation to the ownership table flew under the radar.

Jenna and Mara are best known for founding the boutique JennaMarise Winery in Napa Valley.

It doesn’t look like they’ve spent much time around Levi’s Stadium. Their passion appears to be wine, not football.

Here’s what they say on their website: 

“Growing up surrounded by wine enthusiasts, particularly our maternal grandfather – a true wine connoisseur – we developed an early affection for wine that blossomed into a deep passion for winemaking. This lifelong dream of producing our own wines has finally come to fruition.”

The York sisters now officially own a piece of the franchise their family has run—and sometimes fumbled—for decades on the field (see: Mike Singletary, Jim Tomsula, Chip Kelly) and off the field (see: Dominic Caserta, Anthony Becker, Kevin Park).
