County Allows Some Retail, Manufacturing Businesses, and Outdoor Activities to Reopen on Friday

By Robert Haugh

The County announced yesterday that we are moving into Phase 2 of our re-opening.

Dr. Sara Cody announced amendments to the current Shelter in Place Order. On Friday, May 22, 2020, curbside pickup, manufacturing, and logistics work can resume.

“We recognize that COVID-19 and the measures taken to prevent its spread have profoundly disrupted the lives of all members of our community,” said Dr. Cody.  “We share the sense of urgency, and will reopen activities as soon as they can appropriately resume.”

To reopen, retail, manufacturing, and warehouse businesses need to cap employee density at one person per 300 square feet of space. And retail transactions will have to occur with customers outside.

Storefronts and outdoor malls will be allowed to open for pickup. But indoor malls won’t be able to reopen for pickup. That means we’ll be able to shop at Santana Row, but not Valley Fair.

Other activities that will be allowed to resume are:

  • car parades,
  • outdoor museums,
  • outdoor historical sites, and
  • public gardens.

Residents are still encouraged to shelter in place and wear masks in public.

  1. It looks like Becker who just moved into district 6 will have some fierce competition. A long time resident with a real successful career, just ask Joe #16.
