The Good —The Leg Drop Award

There was a lot of competition this week. Councilwomen Teresa O’Neill and Kathy Watanabe share the Leg Drop Award for proposing a financial assistance plan for residential garbage rates. That move will help every Santa Clara household during a tough time.

Runner up: Silicon Valley Power’s Manuel Pineda did a nice job of defending City staff. He also corrected misinformation about the garbage contracts and rates.

The Bad — The Jabroni Award:

Pineda had to defend City staff against charges by Councilman Raj Chahal. Chahal was trying to change a vote that happened 6 months ago that he lost. Chahal took up a lot of City time and made a lot of mistakes arguing for split carts which are not popular.

Runner up: Anthony Becker was for the extension of a development agreement. Then minutes later he went online and said he was against it. But at least he didn’t unfairly attack City staff.
