AWARDS: Best and Worst of the Week in Santa Clara — Workers Coops and Cuts to Police Services

By Robert Haugh

The Good — The Leg Drop Award

Santa Clara businessman Kirk Vartan pushed the City to study worker coops. Project Equity and the Democracy at Work Institute will be helping small businesses in the Mission City make the change if they want to. It’s an interesting idea that could help businesses and workers.

The Bad — The Jabroni Award:

City Staff and some Councilmembers want to cut police services during a pandemic rather than use “rainy day” funds. Those funds were set aside to keep services from being cut during tough times.
