A goose took down multiple overhead power lines in Santa Clara yesterday and 1,422 Silicon Valley Power (SVP) customers lost power.

Yup, it was a goose. Here’s the tweet that announced it:

Outage update – a goose took down multiple spans of overhead power lines. We are working to switch power around to restore power to as many customers as possible.

By late afternoon, power had been restored to all but 89 of the 1,422 customers impacted.

Earlier this year, SVP was named a “Diamond Level Reliable Public Power Provider” by the American Public Power Association for providing reliable and safe electric service.

The Diamond Level is the highest designation that a utility can earn.  Congrats to SVP. 

But if SVP doesn’t get the award next year, we know who to blame.
