On Saturday morning, the No on Measure B campaign has its kickoff event to save the right of Santa Clara voters to elect the Police Chief.
The event will be at 10 a.m. at the Santa Clara Police Officers Association Hall at 3550 Homestead Road.
The No on Measure B campaign is led by the following individuals who signed the ballot measure’s argument against:
- Police Chief Pat Nikolai
- Mayor Lisa Gillmor
- Councilmember Kathy Watanabe
- Charter Review Committee Member Satish Chandra
- Santa Clara Police Officers Association President Jeremy Schmidt
- Former Councilmember Teresa O’Neill
The Yes on Measure B campaign is being led by the 49er Five. They want to give the City Manager the authority to pick the Mission City’s top law enforcement official.
The following individuals signed the Yes argument:
- Councilmember Suds Jain
- Councilmember Raj Chahal
- Councilmember Karen Hardy
- Charter Review Committee Member Clysta Seney (McLemore)
- Charter Review Committee Chair Jeff Houston
- Charter Review Committee Member Christine Koltermann
- SCUSD Trustee Michele Ryan
The Yes on Measure B campaign hasn’t announced any events on its Facebook page. But that may be because they have mostly negative comments and lots of people opposing their efforts.
Here are the details for Saturday’s event.

To be honest I used to be in favor of having an appointed chief. But that was when we had an honest city govt that cared more about the city than a football team. With the govt we have now we can’t afford to give them more power and influence. What they have already done should be enough to show you what they will do.

Howard and I began speaking on complete opposite sides when this blog began. We did not get along. That is my fault. Now we seem to be coming together. I admit the POA and I have not been close. But their No on B funding paperwork is fined tuned very well. They get it.
Everything filed is right with the law. I am very pleased
I support No on B for the right reasons. But the way Burt, Howard, and the POA are supporting No on B is right on the rules very well (sic).
The Yes on B committee funding is a mess.

The POA is a organization for police officers. A police officer is expected to either give his or her own life or take a life in performance. That is a biiiiig job
In forty years, Poa has made one campaign error.
That is a rating of about .900.
Pretty good.
I have argued with them on a dozen occasions. They treated me with great respect.
Campaigned against Nikolai twice.

Where are your factual citations to back up you allegations, or are we to simply accept the statement of some random response from a poster on another blog? Otherwise, this post is pretty worthless and is hyperbole.
Judge Thomas Kuhnle unilaterally and arbitralily divided our city up into 6 districts which has been a total and unmitigated disaster. Judge Thomas Kuhnle has unilaterally and arbitralily allowed language on the ballot for having an elected police chief that is so bias towards an appointed police chief it is not even veiled or hidden in his ruling.
Need to look at the past elections objectively. Only one candidate is NOT an election. It is not even a referendum vote. It is an automatic non accountable, medieval submission.

A person named Henry Groth also brought up Oakland on the Yes on Measure B Facebook page, this was the reply:
“Santa Clara and Oakland are two completely different cities, they should not be compared.
Sunnyvale and Mt. View are great comparisons to Santa Clara in terms of population, socio-economic make up, police staff levels. Santa Clara’s police department frequently uses more lethal force than the other two cities and in the same period, 2016-2021, Sunnyvale had no complaints of crimes committed by police, Mountain View had 2, Santa Clara had 17. If you’re in favor of rooting out corruption and misconduct, please Vote Yes on Measure B!”
