The May 2024 Civil Grand Jury Report “Irreconcilable Differences” documented how the 49er Five frequently engage in “abusive and belittling behavior.”
It has gotten a lot of press coverage as one international democracy expert has called them “the rudest city council ever.”
The report recommended that Councilmembers get additional training in ethics and parliamentary procedure. So Councilmembers were legally required to respond to parts of the report.
Everyone has – except Councilmember Karen Hardy.
Hardy also made the motion in July to oppose the creation of a City Ethics Commission, one of the Grand Jury’s recommendations. She prevailed on a 4-3 vote.
The deadline for response to the Grand Jury Report by individual Councilmembers was August 9, 2024 – 13 days ago. By press time, Santa Clara News Online (SCNO) did not get information on the penalty for not replying.
Mayor Lisa Gillmor and Councilmembers Suds Jain and Kathy Watanabe turned in their responses on August 7, before the deadline.
Councilmembers Anthony Becker, Raj Chahal, and Kevin Park turned their responses in on August 12, after the deadline.

I expect our Council Members to obeyed by the rulings and laws. NOT AFTER THE DEADLINES. There is no excuse. These individuals should have to ANSWER OUR QUESTIONS at an open meeting for us, the residents and taxpayers to answer why they are not following the rules. That time needs to be now. Either play by the rules or be exited from ever being in Public Service.
2011, a citizen went before Santa Clara City Council and asked for an Ethics Commission. Kevin Park organized an effort to defeat using ridicule and insults.
2024, Park repeats. How many trips to Korea sponsored by groups Gideon Yu works with that Park has received??
I can hear Jed and all his minions yelling at the top of their lungs…
“The beating will continue until moral improves”.
“You people of Santa Clara are so lucky we are in charge”.
Only way to change any of this is to vote on or before Nov 5th.
Once we fix our City, we need to stay vigilant in never giving it back.
I hate delayed intelligence, but it sure beats stupidity.
None of us were stupid, we just made a mistake and trusted the wrong person. That’s life. It’s what you do after you make a mistake that is subject to being criticized.
Our Mayor came to me, and owned her mistake. She explained to me that she trusted the wrong person. Who hasn’t done that before?
She could have walked away… in the middle of the night…never to be heard from again. Sound a little familiar, think who she replaced.
Instead she has stayed vigilant in trying to right a wrong. So our Mayor, Santa Clara Council Member Kathy Watanabe, Mr. 7-0 Brian Doyle, and Mrs. Deanna Santana all deserve at a minimum, our respect and admiration.
Two of those mentioned were run out of town, why…. because they could be run out of town. Did they deserve to be treated like that? Not in the slightest.
Why did they get removed? First off, did you notice the 7-0 in front of Mr. Doyle’s name. He is the one Attorney who was never beaten by the 49ers in court.
Mrs Deanna Santana, just wanted the 49ers to follow the rules and be accountable. Well you know she had to go as well.
The next few months will be critical to our City. Do not think otherwise.

Ms Hardy, a menber of Republican Central Committee, is Kevin Park’s treasuer.
Before council went on break, there was discussion about future meetings to address the GJ reports.
Hardy har har announced she was already working on her responses. 😂
