Santa Clara City Councilmember Karen Hardy finally replied to the Civil Grand Jury. She was 17 days late.
The deadline for her to reply to the “Irreconcilable Differences” report was August 9. She turned in her report on August 25 – three days after Santa Clara News Online (SCNO) reported that Hardy was the only Councilmember not to reply.

Hardy had a lot of excuses. Here’s what she wrote:
“Sorry I missed the deadline. Your email went to the spam file so I did not see it and I had a bad case of Covid most of July and then I focused on being ready for the start of school which was Aug 13. When it was pointed out I missed the deadline and the date of the email, I went looking in my spam folder and found the instructions.”
Hardy teaches at Wilcox High School. It sounds like she might have picked up some excuses from her students to use on the Grand Jury.
Hardy also basically told the Grand Jury they were wrong and she doesn’t need to comply with their recommendations.
Here’s what Hardy wrote:
“Recommendation 1e. Councilmember Hardy should attend one-on-one conflict resolution training to learn to work more effectively for the good of the City. This recommendation should be implemented by October 1, 2024.
“The recommendations will not be implemented because it is not warranted or is not reasonable, with an explanation thereof.
Recommendations 5c. Councilmember Hardy should pledge to train with an ethics expert from an established outside entity that specializes in government ethics. This recommendation should be implemented by October 1, 2024.
“The recommendations will not be implemented because it is not warranted or is not reasonable, with an explanation thereof.”
Hardy’s response is consistent with those of her 49er Five colleagues. They’ve attacked and rejected all the Grand Jury reports that have been critical of their cozy relationship with the team and their “abusive and belittling behavior.”
Indicted Coucilmember Anthony Becker is even attacking the Grand Jury as part of his legal defense strategy, something he borrowed from the 49er playbook.
Becker’s felony perjury trial started yesterday. Jury selection begins soon.
Hardy is a b****
So didn’t Hardy har har brag that she was preparing responses before the council break? I thought she was being diligent but maybe she imagined it?
Wow, ok I can see where the 49ers are cutting their budgets just a bit.
By the way, I love the analogy, “My dog ate my homework”.
Who ever you are, please contact me for a Yard Sign!!! My bet you already have a few, but maybe you know some people. We all need to rally around this and if we have any differences, it’s time to put them aside.
We all need to just ask one question.
Have we given these current elected leaders enough time to show us who they represent?
I believe if they wrote a follow up to the book, “Field of Schemes”, they would list Santa Clara as the most abused City by the NFL.
Is Jed Baby going to want a parade because he finally won something?
Ok, the not so funny part, who do you think he would want to pay for that parade???
The bad news is, we just have 30 more years of this.
The good news is, we actually have a lot of say in how those next 30 years are spent.
Clock is ticking
